20-20-20 Eye Rest Reminder

The 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This tool times it for you in the background while you work or study.

Press Start and leave this tab open. Adjust the interval and look-away time in Settings.

Why 20-20-20?

Staring at a screen reduces your blink rate and keeps your eye's focusing muscles locked at one distance. Shifting focus to something far away briefly relaxes them.

Leave the tab open

The reminder keeps running in the background as long as this tab stays open — switch to your work or study app and it will notify or sound an alert when it's time.

Enable notifications

Turn on browser notifications in Settings so you get a prompt even when this tab isn't in focus — ideal for pairing with a Focus Timer work session.

Beyond the screen

Combine short breaks with a few blinks and, if your eyes still feel dry or strained by the end of the day, consider a broader break from screens entirely.

FAQ

Yes — the reminder only runs while this tab stays open in your browser, even in the background. Closing the tab stops the timer.
Only if you've turned on Browser Notifications in Settings — otherwise the alert is a sound and on-screen message that only appears while you're viewing this tab.
It's a widely recommended habit from optometrists for reducing digital eye strain, though it's a general guideline rather than a strict clinical protocol — adjust the interval and duration in Settings to whatever feels right for you.
