How We Get Information
Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you, for one of the following reasons:
- You browse our website.
- You make an enquiry to us, or you make an information request.
Your Data Protection Rights
Under data protection law, you have rights we need to make you aware of. The rights available to you depend on our reason for processing your information.
Your right of access. You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. This right always applies, though some exemptions may mean you don't receive everything we process.
Your right to rectification. You can ask us to correct information you think is inaccurate, or complete information you think is incomplete. This right always applies.
Your right to erasure. You can ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
Your right to restriction of processing. You can ask us to restrict the processing of your information in certain circumstances.
Your right to object to processing. You can object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests as the lawful basis.
Your right to complain. We work to high standards when processing personal information. If you have queries or concerns, contact us at hello@screentoolsapp.com and we'll respond. If you remain dissatisfied, you can complain to your national data protection supervisory authority — for example the EU supervisory authorities or, for UK residents, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Sharing Your Information
Where we use data processors — third parties who provide elements of our service, such as hosting — we have contracts in place with them. This means they cannot do anything with your personal information unless we have instructed them to, they will not share it with anyone else, and they must hold it securely for the period we instruct.
Our hosting provider receives the technical data your browser sends when you load a page — such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested — and may keep it in server logs to deliver the Site and keep it secure.
In some circumstances we are legally obliged to share information, for example under a court order. In any such case, we satisfy ourselves that we have a lawful basis to share the information and document that decision.
Cookies and Local Storage
We do not set cookies of our own. Instead, the Site stores information on your device using your browser's local storage and cache. None of this is sent to us. There are three categories:
- Necessary — needed to run the Site and to remember the choices you make and the things you create in our tools. These are stored automatically and don't require your consent. Details below.
- Optional (analytics) — if you accept, this enables Google Analytics to measure site usage, such as which pages and tools are popular. Google sets its own cookies for this, such as
_gaand_ga_<id>, which can last up to two years. This is off by default and only activates if you opt in. - Optional (advertising) — if you accept, this enables Google AdSense to serve advertisements on the Site. Google sets its own cookies for this; their names and lifetimes are described in Google's policies. This is off by default and only activates if you opt in.
What is stored on your device (necessary)
- Your cookie choice (
st-consent) — so we don't ask you again. - Your preferences — your language (
st-lang,st-lang-chosen), your light or dark theme (st-theme), and whether you have dismissed the first-visit tip or the install prompt (st-hint-seen,st-install-dismissed). - Your tool settings and data — saved only when you use a tool, under names beginning
st-timer-,st-meeting-,st-eyerest-andst-nightlight-, plusst-recent-colors. Examples are timer durations and presets, your daily goal, task lists, session and meeting history, meeting names and agendas, your notification preference, night light settings and recently used colours. Anything you type into a tool (such as a meeting name or a task) stays on your device. - Offline copies — a service worker saves copies of the Site's pages, styles, scripts and fonts in your browser's cache so the tools keep working without a connection.
None of this has an expiry date. It stays until you delete it: you can clear it at any time by deleting the site's data in your browser settings, and some tools have their own clear buttons. Offline copies are replaced automatically when the Site is updated.
If you turn on notifications in a timer, your browser asks for permission and remembers your answer. Notifications are created on your device; we do not receive or store them.
The Google Analytics script itself is not loaded, and no request is made to Google, until you actively opt in to analytics or advertising via the cookie banner or "Cookie Settings" link. If you opt in, we use Google Consent Mode so that only the categories you accepted are granted.
You can change your preference at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of this website.
The lawful basis for necessary storage is our legitimate interest in operating the website and providing the features you ask for (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). The lawful basis for the optional analytics and advertising cookies is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you may withdraw at any time using the Cookie Settings link.
Links to Other Websites
Where we link to websites of other organisations, this Privacy Policy does not cover how that organisation processes personal information. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any other websites you visit.
Enquiries and Communications
If you contact us by email to ask a question, give feedback, or request information, we collect the information you provide — including your name and email address — so that we can respond. We keep a record of our correspondence to deal with the enquiry and any follow-up, and to check the level of service we provide.
The lawful basis for this processing is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), given when you contact us. Providing your data this way is voluntary. We will process it until your consent is withdrawn, and afterwards only for as long as required by the limitation period for claims or applicable record-keeping obligations.
Other Important Information
Providing personal data to us is voluntary, but necessary to achieve the specific purpose it is collected for.
If you opt in to the optional analytics or advertising cookies, Google may process your data on servers located outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard recognised under GDPR.
Children's Information
Screen Tools does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor their children's online activity. If you believe your child has provided personal data to us, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to remove it from our records.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We keep this Privacy Policy under regular review to make sure it stays up to date and accurate. We will indicate any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
Personal Data Removal
To request the removal of your personal data, email us from the address associated with your enquiry at hello@screentoolsapp.com, stating your request. We will delete the relevant information and notify you once this is complete.
